Hospitals are conceiving new programs to make childbirth safer, amid
mounting evidence that overuse of labor-inducing drugs for preterm
deliveries and other common practices in the delivery room are
endangering both mothers and infants. Driven by soaring
liability-insurance premiums for their obstetrics units, hospital groups
are adopting policies to discourage or prohibit births induced before
the minimum 39 weeks recommended by maternal and child health experts,

Breast Milk May Lead To Lower Rate of Bed-Wetting

A new study may add to the mounting evidence that breast milk plays a
role in helping babies' brains to develop. In a group of New Jersey
children, breast-feeding for more than three months appeared to be
linked with a lower rate of bed-wetting after the age of five years. In
the study of 55 bed-wetters between 5 and 13 years old, published this
month in Pediatrics, only 45.5% were breast-fed, compared with a
breast-feeding rate of 81.2% among a control group of children who
didn't wet their beds. Breast-feeding has long been recognized as the
